Migratory

They are tracking migratory
cuckoos so that we can follow,
traced on a laptop screen, the
distance travelled between the
breeding grounds and back again;
the path that the fledglings
will follow, independently, when
they are strong enough, tracing
steps older than our own, an
instinct as alien to us as we
must be to them. Following what?
Guiding lights we cannot see.
Trusting, while we are not.
Accepting, while we do not,
the limits the DNA binds us to.
