Desert rise

No one
to see the bloom

Just the scorch
of the sun

Seared back
into the earth

Always finding its way
to rise again

Night flowers

The bees have gone to hive
we're inside now
drapes closed
under blankets
eyes shut
after such a long day
it feels like we're floating
in the echo
of their collective buzz
thank goodness we can breathe
that we're breathing
so deep
and through the exhales
of pitch black darkness
we can feel the
feasted upon glow
of the night flowers

Rolling down the window on a summer’s night’s drive

When the sun’s last light faded
we'll never remember
besides that was a lifetime ago
we're on the way back from nowhere

Windows rolled down
and what was that you were saying?
that's where the conversation ends
not that the question was ever asked

We should have pulled over earlier
now the sign is dark
we always blame the heat
it's us the melts away
