Flights e-Journal (issue fourteen)

Welcome to the Autumn 2024 edition of the Flights e-journal, issue 14. It has been a delight to guest-edit this issue: thank you so much, Barbara and Darren, for trusting me with the task. What you have done with Flight of the Dragonfly in the past few years is extraordinary. Your support of so many poets – including myself – has been phenomenal. It’s a privilege to play my small part in your ongoing project.

Thank you to all who submitted your work. I enjoyed reading all of the submissions, from among which I picked 39 poems from 23 poets, along with two pieces of short fiction. It was a pleasure to read – and to hear, as I read the poems aloud – the words, and enjoy the skill with which the writers had converted their emotions and ideas into poetry or fiction. Alongside this of course was the disappointment with which I felt I had to turn down some submissions, often because I felt the craft didn’t quite match the ambition of the content, or when the content didn’t seem to merit the craft. My apologies to those who submitted work that didn’t make it through the net. Obviously editorial decisions are personal, and likely of the poems I didn’t pick would have met with a more positive response from another editor.

I hope everyone finds something to enjoy in this issue, and continues to participate in Flight of the Dragonfly, whether by submitting their work, buying the books, reading the online content, or turning up to the events.
