Legs 11!
Hello and welcome to issue eleven of Flights.
My name is Gaynor Kane and I had the pleasure (and really tough job) of being this issue’s guest editor. It was a tough job because there were over a hundred submission emails and the majority of those were in the poetry category and contained three poems. This meant I had some hard decisions to make and often had to decline very good writing. So, if you didn’t get an acceptance this time please don’t be disheartened, the acceptance rate for poetry was around 10%. That said, several submissions didn’t follow the guidelines and those received an automatic rejection. Please do read the guidance if you are going to submit to a future issue, it’ll be a few minutes well spent. It’s great to see an increase in prose. There are some excellent pieces in this issue. There would have been a few extra but unfortunately some of the work had typos. Please proofread your work, or, if you can, ask a friend to look at it as it’s hard to spot your own mistakes. Incidentally, here’s a story to show we are all fallible. In an earlier draft of this editorial, in the next paragraph I talked about the ‘reigns’ until Barbara proofread it for me and corrected my mistake.
Thanks to Barbara and Darren for the opportunity, and for trusting me. They graciously handed over the reins and let me get on with the task at hand and I know that can’t have been easy because Flights is a labour of love for them and they do a very good job of it.
Thanks to you, the readers, for being here. I hope you enjoy issue 11, I know I have.
